The printer is a modern marvel that most offices can not live without. Most of us would agree with that as life with without a printer can be very inconvenient. But what happens when the printer malfunctions and you aren’t able to get your work done? Well not to worry; if you know how a printer works, you can troubleshoot all potential problems that arise. This knowledge may also help you repair the printer yourself, instead of having to call the repair guy.
Inkjet printers are the most affordable printers on the market. Because of this many people choose to buy them instead of the more expensive laser printers. An inkjet printer uses small nozzles to shoot ink on the paper page. When the ink is applied it is in droplets that are so small that they can not be seen; only when the printer puts these drops into large collections will they be shown as an image. The inkjet printer never actually touches the paper when they are printing. The nozzles spray the ink according to the image that is being dictated from the software. Because the nozzles never actually touch the paper they are known as non-impact printers. This is in contrast to a typewriter of a dot matrix printer that makes a contact with a ribbon and then in turn pushes the ink into the page. Inside the printer you will find the parts that help the printer do its job. The most important part is the printer head; this is the device that contains the nozzles that shoot the ink onto the page. There is a print head motor that moves the printer head back and forth across the page. There is a belt that attaches the printer head to the print head motor. If this breaks you will see it easily and yes the printer will not function. Then there is the paper feeder motor and the rollers that move the paper to the correct position so that everything lines up while the printing is happening, if the paper comes off of the rollers, there will be a jam and it is usually easy to fix by resetting the papers position in the rollers.
For those who aren’t too computer savvy or have not idea about the operation of a printer, the most important thing is to learn how to change the printer cartridge and load the paper. Printers are usually trouble free and these two issues are the problems you will most likely deal with. Another thing to know is that most printer manufacturers have designed the printers to have 2 ink cartridges, one that is for the color black and the other that include all of the needed colors. In the some cases, some printer manufacturers will have a cartridge for each color needed.
It’s easy now to find a printer at a budget price that is of high quality. Your decision on which printer to buy depends on what your intended use for the printer is and how much usage you think you will have for the printer. If you are planning on using the printer to make business cards or many posters, you may want to choose a more high quality printer with affordable ink cartridges.
High quality cartridges are the most common maintenance items that you will deal with during the time you have your printer.
